ANGEL Learning Isle in Second Life™

In May of 2007, ANGEL Learning launched the ANGEL Learning Isle, a cooperative effort between ANGEL Learning and the Second Life Educators community (SLED). ANGEL Learning Isle provides a virtual world designed for educational experimentation within the popular Second Life application.

Isle Overview

ANGEL Learning Isle was built specifically for educators to experiment in the use of virtual collaboration technologies in online learning. Our goal with this R&D experiment is to provide a place for faculty and learners new to Second Life to get their bearings and practice new navigational and communication skills.

ANGEL Learning Isle provides a variety of tools to help users get started and experiment with Second Life, including:

• Orientation Garden to introduce new users to basic navigation and camera controls.
• Educators' Tool Gallery to offer a variety of educational tools and instructions on how to use them.
• Sandox where educators learn basic principles of building objects in Second Life.
• Teleport Kiosk to visit other educational sites in Second Life.
• Concourse for display of student or educator projects.

ANGEL "Nugget" Links the ANGEL LMS and Second Life

ANGEL LMS v. 7.3, released in May of 2008, includes an optional nugget that ANGEL customers can use to link directly from the ANGEL LMS to ANGEL Learning Isle in Second Life.

Drop Box Integration Project

In July 2008, ANGEL Learning and San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science announced a joint project to explore the integration of the ANGEL LMS and Second Life. The expected outcome of the project is an ANGEL drop box that students can use to share evidence of their work from within Second Life. Project lead Jeremy Kemp is a recognized thought leader in the potential of virtual worlds to provide interactive, meaningful learning experiences.
